If the house is built in the 80s, paint the woodwork. When it's this age, that's sacrosanct. Usually, Sophie does a good job, but I heartily disagree with her tactics here. Many people look for that sort of detail. Instead of that shelf/breakfast bar/prep area, I would've moved the fridge to that side of the kitchen (hard to function in a straight line--work triangle is optimal) and added another run of upper and lower cabinets. Tons of storage and more prep area. Much more useful than just a shelf.

A paint job and a few furnishings wouldn't entice me to buy that absolute midden. To allow cameras into your house that has mouse droppings on the table is gross. The new buyers will probably have to deal with a mouse infestation. I hope they have the decency to tell them what they're actually buying. Disgusting.

I had a painter tell me it would be cheaper to replace a 24” vanity and sink in a bathroom than for him to paint it. “$360? I can do it myself!” And I did and it took days to do and was not perfect. I would never take on painting an entire kitchen’s cabinets. And I’m very good at painting.
